Learning to fly in the simulation lab

It sounds like an awful thing for a trauma specialist to admit. But in Dr. Daniel Howes lab, the patient dies frequently, a number of times everyday.

“But that’s OK,” he says.

It’s OK because the lab the Director of the Regional Trauma Program at KGH is talking about is the new simulation lab at the hospital. It’s where young doctors, nurses and respiratory therapists learn how to resuscitate a patient in cardiac arrest.

How are we doing?

As a publicly-funded hospital in Ontario, we are accountable to our patients, our communities, the South East Local Health Integration Network and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. We support the sharing of information about our budget and improvement plans to ensure ongoing transparency and accountability. We believe this transparency will enhance patient safety and strengthen the public’s confidence in our hospital.
