Kingston General Hospital’s Patient and Family Advisory Council

The Patient and Family Advisory Council was formed in February 2010. The council is composed of twelve former patients or family members of patients who have received care at KGH, plus five KGH staff. The Council includes individuals who have had experience in the medicine, emergency, surgery, oncology, mental health and pediatric programs. The council is co-chaired by a patient experience advisor and a staff member.

Since September 2010, patient experience advisors have become members of key service-based and corporate committees, including the Interprofessional Collaborative Practice Model Steering Committee, the Patient Flow Taskforce and the newly formed Patient Quality and Safety Steering Committee.

As a next step, recruitment and interviewing is also under way for membership on the nine patient care program councils. The Critical Care, Cardiac, Oncology and Emergency Program Councils are the first to have patient experience advisors actively participating.
