Our learning partners
We work closely with our partners to create current, relevant clinical, educational, research and training opportunities that benefit our students, our hospital and our patients.
Our longest-standing partnership is with our next-door neighbour. While most KGH doctors serve as Queen’s faculty members, our partnership with Queen’s also encompasses residents, trainees, post-doctoral fellows and researchers. KGH serves as a living classroom for these Queen’s departments:
- School of Medicine
- School of Nursing
- School of Rehabilitation Therapy
- Occupational Therapy
- Physical Therapy
- Department of Pathology & Molecular Medicine
- School of Religion
St. Lawrence College
We work closely with St. Lawrence College to provide placement services in these programs:
- Baccalaureate Nursing (with Laurentian University)
- Practical Nursing
- Critical Care Nursing
- Medical Laboratory Science
- Behavioural Science
- Medical and Office Administration
- Human Resource Management
- Advertising and Marketing
We also rely on St. Lawrence College to help us help our staff members become effective preceptors. All of our nursing preceptors undergo training through St. Lawrence College.
Department of National Defence
When Canadian Forces healthcare professionals need to augment their clinical skills, they come to KGH for advanced training. Since 2007, our operating rooms, emergency department, intensive care unit and non-critical care units have hosted armed forces nurses from across the country who work alongside KGH staff to gain clinical skills, competencies and expertise that they can bring to their jobs on the frontlines of military sites around the world.
Weeneebayko General Hospital, Moose Factory, Ontario
Our specialists visit Weeneebayko General Hospital several times a year, serving patients in remote northern communities. When we can’t be there, we keep in touch, consulting frequently by telephone, telemedicine and videoconferencing.
