Hospital access
To protect the healthy, safety and privacy of our patients, members of the media are required to contact the Public Affairs department before coming onto hospital property. All members of the media must be escorted at all times while on hospital property by a member of Public Affairs, Security or other individuals designated by Public Affairs. Media should only be on hospital property with the prior knowledge and approval of Public Affairs. Unescorted media will be asked to leave the premises by Security.
Media must wear valid identification of their employer while on hospital property and be prepared to produce it when at the hospital.
The media must adhere to hospital policies and procedures while on hospital property.
Interviewing patients and staff
The media must notify Public Affairs before attempting to interview, photograph, audio tape or video tape a patient or member of hospital staff including physicians, students and volunteers.
If the media wishes to interview and/or photograph, audio tape or video tape one of our patients, written consent must first be obtained from the patient or his or her substitute decision-maker (often referred to as next-of-kin). This consent is solicited by Public Affairs or individuals designated by Public Affairs.
If the media wishes to interview and/or photograph, audio tape or video tape one of our staff, physicians, students or volunteers, verbal consent must first be obtained. This consent is solicited by Public Affairs or individuals designated by Public Affairs.
After-hours inquiries
Outside of regular business hours (8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday) during statutory holidays, an on-call Public Affairs representative is available to liaise with media. KGH’s administration offices, however, are closed and hospital leaders and clinical experts are not available. Public Affairs will follow up these requests on the next business day.
