Queen’s/KGH (Stuart Street) underground parking garage renovations affect number of available spaces
Major repairs and upgrades to the 570-space Queen’s University/KGH (Stuart Street) Underground Parking Garage are underway to help ensure its safety and long-term use.
The garage will stay open during the 18 to 24-month project but there are now fewer spots available during peak weekday hours. The work is being completed in phases to minimize the impact on garage users and to maximize the number of spaces available for hospital patients, families and visitors, who are the primary users of the garage. Click here for a map showing alternate parking locations within the vicinity of the hospital.
We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding.
Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to use the parking garage during the renovations?
Yes. The garage is sound. The work is being done in phases to minimize the impact on garage users. All areas under construction will be enclosed to minimize dust. The company doing the work specializes in parking garages and has worked on hospital projects.
How do I know which parts of the garage are closed?
Areas under construction will be enclosed and signs will be posted directing users to which areas of the garage remain open. We ask that you use caution when entering and exiting the garage.
Is the pedestrian tunnel to the hospital closed?
No. The tunnel into the hospital will stay open throughout the project during peak hours.
Will parking prices for the garage be changing to help pay for the upgrades?
Parking rates are reviewed annually. Current rates are set through to July 2011.
Are accessible (disabled) parking spaces affected?
No. Accessible parking spaces are unaffected inside the garage. Also, there are accessible parking spaces located outside the Fraser Armstrong Patient Centre, the Kidd-Davies main entrance and on Stuart Street.
Where else can I park?
A list of alternate parking locations is provided on the reverse. Pay-and-display street parking is also available on King Street West and Stuart and Barrie Streets. This parking is administered by the city and costs $1.50 per hour with a two-hour limit. Parking on King Street West, west of Lower University Avenue, is a three-hour limit. People are also encouraged to get dropped off, take the city bus or carpool to the hospital.
