Accessibility
We are working to be open, understanding and supportive of special needs. We’re also teaching the health-care professionals of tomorrow to better understand the needs of all of our patients.
We are committed to recognizing and eliminating the barriers that disabled people face every day. These include architectural, physical, communication, attitudinal, technological and organizational barriers.
Interpretive services
If you need an interpreter, your care team will help you arrange for one. We have access to professional interpreters and translators and can arrange to have one on site for you.
Telephone services
If you have a hearing impairment, your health-care team will arrange to have a special-service telephone installed in your room.
Special telephone services include:
- TTY telecommunication service
- Visual prompts (red lights)
- Higher decibel levels
Service animals
Service animals are welcome at our hospital. As part of our commitment to making our hospital as accessible as possible, we make every effort to comply with The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act of 2005. To that end, we ask that all service animals be clearly marked with identification cards, harnesses or jackets. We also ask that service animal owners be responsible for their animals’ care, supervision, behaviour, training and immunization.
