Emergency medicine
The KGH Emergency department is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is a joint program in partnership with Hotel Dieu Hospital’s Urgent Care Centre.
We’re the only site in the Kingston area that accepts ambulance service, so if you call an ambulance, you’ll find yourself in our care. We’re fully equipped to serve ambulatory elderly patients and patients with complex multi-system diseases. Becasue we have the ability to consult with doctors in all of the hospital’s sub-specialities, we’re ready to care for all patients who may need to be admitted to hospital.
Our program has a long history of supporting nationally-recognized research activity. Some of our current research focuses are:
• Injury epidemiology and trauma
• Clinical decision rules
• Toxicology
• Medical simulation for training
• Interdisciplinary education
• Resuscitation
• Procedural sedation and analgesia
• Syndromic surveillance
