Pathology and Molecular Medicine

Our department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine serves KGH patients as well as patients of other local and regional hospitals and clinical care sites throughout Southeastern Ontario.

We provide clinical laboratory and pathology services, including medical diagnostic consultations and interpretation of test results. Our clinical laboratory services include:

  • Anatomical Pathology: Surgical Pathology, Cytology and Autopsy services
  • Hematopathology: routine and special Hematology, Blood Transfusion Services, Hemostasis and Immunology
  • Clinical Microbiology: routine and Molecular Bacteriology, Virology, Mycology and Parasitology
  • Clinical Chemistry: routine and special Chemistry, mass spectrometry and therapeutic drug monitoring
  • Laboratory Genetics: Cytogenetics, Molecular Genetics and gene microarrays

We also administer autologous blood transfusions (transfusions using your own blood) and care for patients with hemophilia and other bleeding disorders.

We provide additional laboratory services on a regional basis for Southeastern Ontario. These include a gynaecologic Cytology screening program (Pap tests), a dermatopathology service, a forensic pathology service and a diagnostic service in focused areas of Molecular Genetics and Haemostasis.
