Pediatrics
Our Pediatrics program uses a family-centered approach to deliver age-appropriate inpatient and outpatient care to children from birth to age 18.
We provide most inpatient service through the pediatric, pediatric step-down, intensive care and neonatal intensive care units at KGH. We deliver most outpatient care through the Children’s Outpatient Centre and the Child Development Centre at Hotel Dieu Hospital; however we care for ambulatory oncology patients at the Cancer Centre at KGH.
Our program supports several multidisciplinary teams that enable us to better serve and care for our patients while they’re here with us and once they return home. These programs include child protection, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, asthma, acquired brain injury, Pediatric Oncology and our Special Infant Clinic.
Child Life services
Through play activities, non-medical preparation and procedural support, Child Life staff actively engage our patients and help them strengthen their ability to cope with illness, treatment and hospitalization.
You can reach our Child Life staff Monday to Saturday at KGH extension 3481.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
Babies are admitted to the NICU because they need specialized medical and nursing care. Our goal is to provide each baby with the best possible care so that he or she can be discharged home as soon as possible.
For more information please consult the NICU Parent Handbook
Pediatric oncology
Cancer in children is rare, however, children with cancer require intensive support, special facilities and follow-up care. Our Pediatric Oncology Service and the Cancer Centre at KGH are here to care for children with cancer and their families.
