Allied Health

Our dynamic team of allied healthcare providers from many professions are essential to the delivery of quality patient centred care, education and research & development. As valued members of the interdisciplinary health care team, their skills and expertise are critical to the success for patients at Kingston General Hospital.

KGH offers a wide variety of nursing profession opportunities; from the bedside RN and RPN to Clinical Educators, Advanced Practice Nurses in specialized fields and Nursing Research all in the major disciplines of surgical, medical, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Ambulatory, Orthopaedic, Intensive Care, Emergency, Renal, Neurological, Oncology and Cardiac.
In partnership with Queens University and St. Lawrence College, KGH offers practical bed-side nursing training.

Students & Residents

As an acute care teaching facility, there are strong partnerships with Queen’s University, St. Lawrence College and many other teaching institutions including Michener Institute, University of Ottawa, and Laurentian University.
At any given time, there can be upwards of 800 students in the hospital pursuing their respective educational training requirements.
These opportunities are not limited to direct patient care such as Medical Residents or Student Nurses. Often the hospital facilitates training for professions such as Human Resources Management professionals and Hospital Administration professionals.

Management & Professional Roles

Management Roles
Our management team includes various roles in both clinical and non-clinical areas: Team Leader, Coordinator, Manager, and Director as well as Professional Practice Leaders for various disciplines. We look for candidates with previous management experience, demonstrated educational achievements and leadership competencies. Healthcare experience is required in some areas and ideal in others.

Professional Roles (Non-Clinical)
Numerous Professional roles are in place at KGH including:  Information Management, Finance, People Services, Risk Management, Quality Control, Patient Access, Communications and Public Affairs.

Administrative & Clerical Roles

We have various levels and types of administrative and clerical roles including:  Medical Secretary, Clerk, Switchboard Operator, Filing Clerk, Health Records Clerk, Receptionist, Departmental Secretary, and Administrative Assistant.  Grade 12 and post secondary education is generally required for many positions.  Potential candidates may be tested for data entry, accounting, typing, and medical terminology proficiency, depending on the vacancy requirements.

Support & Skilled Trades

Kingston General Hospital employs numerous skilled trades including:  Engineers, Plumbers Locksmiths, Carpenters, Electricians, Millwrights and other support positions such as Patient Care Assistants, Sterile Processing Aides, Nutrition Services Assistants and Environmental Services Assistants. Education and skills vary but typically a minimum of Grade 12 is required.
