KGH is a highly unionized environment. Compensation and benefit provisions vary dependent on the bargaining unit that represents respective professions. Non-union staff are governed by the Non-Union Terms and Conditions guidelines.
 

Benefits

Kingston General Hospital maintains committed to our employees' needs by offering:
 
Major Medical / Pay Direct Drug Benefit
This plan provides partial reimbursement for supplementary health services such as:  prescription drugs, semi-private hospital room, eye exams/glasses/contact lenses, etc.
 
Dental
This plan provides for reimbursement of basic, restorative, and orthodontic services, subject to some maximums.  Plan coverage will vary, subject to employee group eligibility criteria.
 
Life Insurance
Life insurance benefits are offered through the hospital.  Supplementary life and dependant life insurance are available at group rates.
 
Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance
Additional financial protection is offered to your family in the event of accidental death or dismemberment while you are an employee. This is in addition to any group life insurance benefit.
 
Short-Term Sickness (HOODIP)
Short term sick leave benefits are provided in the event of non-occupational illness or injury. The entitlement varies depending on the group and length of service with the hospital.
 
Long-Term Disability Insurance (HOODIP)
Continuing income is provided in the event it’s determined that an employee is unable to perform their occupation.
 
Hospitals of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP)
Both the employee and the hospital make contributions to the pension plan to provide income during your retirement years. Click here for more information.
 
Canada Pension Plan (CPP)
The federal pension plan is available as early as  age 60; employee pays percentage of annual earnings.
 
Employment Insurance (EI)
Provides income protection for layoff, illness, maternity, and parental benefits; employee pays percentage of annual earnings.
 
Pregnancy/Parental Leave:
The amount of the supplemental benefit, the length of the leave and any other allowances during such leave are outlined in the applicable collective agreement.
 
Statutory Holidays
12 paid statutory holidays per year.  Casual and part-time employees are offered a percentage in lieu of benefits, sick leave, and holidays.
 
Workplace Safety and Insurance Board
Full coverage is provided to employees for on-the-job injuries and illness.
 
Vacation
Vacation entitlement varies depending on the group and your length of employment. Casual and part-time employees typically receive a percentage in lieu of vacation.
 
Pre-Paid Leave Plans
The Pre-Paid Leave plan allows employees to defer a portion of their salary to finance a specified future leave of absence in order to pursue educational, career related or other personal development goals. The plan is both convenient and tax effective.
 
Savings Plans
KGH offers both a Tax Free Savings account as well as Canada Savings Bonds through payroll deduction.
 
RRSP / RESP Group Plans
KGH offers employees the convenience of direct payroll deposit for both Registered Retired Savings Plans as well as Registered Education Savings Plans. Eligibility requirements and actual plan coverage vary depending on the employee group. Details and specifics are outlined within the respective collective agreements and are subject to change depending on the union group.

Thanks to the generosity of individuals and organizations, funding is available to employees of Kingston General Hospital to further their educational endeavours.  The scholarships, bursaries and interest free education loans offer financial support to staff studying part time towards degrees, diplomas, certificates and professional designations at qualifying universities, colleges and post-secondary educational institutions.
 
Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP)
 
An off-site, confidential, voluntary, short-term counselling program is provided for employees and their families to deal with a range of personal, family, and workplace concerns. Services are free of charge and available to employees, family members and dependants 24-7.
