Kingston General Hospital remains committed to providing a healthy and fulfilling work environment. Services that support and foster this environment fall under the division of People Services and Organizational Effectiveness.

The following describes some of the various functions and services provided:

The Healthy Workplace Services department provides programs and services pertaining to the wellness of employees at Kingston General Hospital. It facilitates an environment that is both healthy and safe that includes promoting positive health practices in employees and building a culture of safety for staff, volunteers, patients and visitors.

The Leadership & Learning Services department focuses on providing advice and training to support the growth of leaders and teams by developing and offering relevant skills development. Training and continuing education opportunities help meet the challenges of an ever-changing environment. By supporting the development of staff skills, we will continually improve the quality of care provided.

The Recruitment & Employee Services department provides the full range of employment services including job advertising, selection, employment offers, compensation and benefits as well as recognition initiatives. This includes teamspirit@KGH, an enthusiastic group of employees that strongly believes in recognizing employees who go out of their way to make KGH a great place to work. The group also believes in creating an atmosphere where staff can come together and enjoy a little down time.

Wellness: Our wellness initiatives encourage employees to take measures that lead to healthier lifestyles and prevent illness. Some of the programs include Musculoskeletal Injury Prevention, Health Risk Appraisals and Fitness Discounts.

Safety: At Kingston General Hospital, working safely is an expectation and everyone has a role to play in making the hospital a safe place to work. Safety is integrated into our daily work and any risks to health & safety can be eliminated through a prevention mindset.

Learning: Leadership & Learning Services focuses on providing advice and training to support the growth of leaders and teams. KGH believes in supporting individual employees by developing and offering relevant skills development through training and continuing education opportunities to help meet the challenges of an ever-changing environment.

I chose KGH as a place of employment because of the many incentives it offered me as an out of province RN and new hire.  Connell 3 is an extraordinary place to work! Not many people can say that they actually miss work when they are on their days off, but I am proud to say that I am one of those people. The staff on Connell 3 is amazing from the PCAs, UCs, RPNs and RNs. I feel that I am supported 100% and someone is always willing to lend a helping hand. Moving to a different province and leaving family behind is hard to do, but the relationships I have developed here will stay with me forever.  Our charge nurse, manager and clinical educator are exceptional! The leadership and support they provide their staff is second to none. Their staff feels valued and listened to which makes the floor a happy place to be and a great environment to work in. KGH itself is continually improving its work environment to make our hospital a safe and exceptional place to work both through renovations to the unit and continuing education. Increasing your knowledge base is not only offered, it is encouraged.
