KGH Auxiliary fundraising activities
Auxiliary Café
The Auxiliary Café, located in the main lobby at the Stuart Street hospital entrance has seating for 100 and is a great place to enjoy breakfast, lunch, or supper. Freshly brewed coffee and a wide range of other beverages are always available to accompany a tempting selection of bakery items and sandwich choices. There are two daily soups and you will find a daily special posted.
After more than 20 years in our current location, the café has an excellent reputation for offering excellent meal selections, made daily using fresh, high quality products. The café has been awarded an EAT SMART designation by the Local Health Unit.
Kingston General Hospital Auxiliary operates the Café and all revenues generated are returned to the hospital for the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment to enhance patient care.

Field of Miracles
The Field of Miracles mural, located on Kidd 5, was opened in 2005 to celebrate the KGH Auxiliary’s 100th anniversary and the miracle of birth. The delightful wall painting by Heather Haynes and Jane Teglas is surrounded by oval shaped commemorative plaques.
Each plaque states the name and date of birth of a baby born at KGH. Family plaques are grouped together where possible. The plaques cost $100 each and a tax donation receipt will be issued for that amount minus the cost of the plaque.
More than 300 ‘miracles’ adorn the field including one for Bryan Adams. When he visited Kingston in 2009 for a concert, he authorized the placement of a plaque in commemoration of his birth at KGH.

H.E.L.P.P. (Hospital Equipment Lottery for People Project)
Profits from the break-open ticket lottery are used to purchase equipment for the hospital. 75 wheelchairs were purchased in late 2009 and early 2010 from these monies as well as a patient transport stretcher bed. Resting stations in the hospital hallways are being provided in 2012 from the current profits.
Tickets are 50-cents each and are available daily near the Kidd elevators from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. depending on the availability of volunteers. Volunteers are always needed for this location. Please contact the Volunteer Office at 613-548-2359.
Lottery BoothThe Lottery Booth, relocated next to the Tuck Shop on Connell 1, sells all OLG lottery tickets. It is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. depending on the availability of volunteers.
All profits from the lottery booth are directed to our annual contribution to the hospital and volunteers are needed to staff the booth. Please contact the Volunteer Office at 613-548-2359 if you are interested in helping.
Memorial FundThe Memorial Fund receives many donations in memory of patients and/or former Auxiliary members. The names of the deceased are written in the Memorial Book which is located in a special display stand in the Hall of Honour near the main lobby.
The funds are used to purchase equipment needed by the hospital. In 2009, there were a total of 205 donations, totalling more than $12,000.
Millennium Fundraising Committee
Following the successful fundraising results for the Endowment Fund, the committee continued in its role. The Annual Golf Tournament in May and the Teddy Bear campaign in November are the mainstays of this committee, but it also undertakes any other event which will add to Auxiliary coffers.
Search For Gold, a new initiative in 2010, turns broken gold jewellery including chains, watches and earrings into cold hard cash.
