Kingston’s university hospitals – Hotel Dieu Hospital, Kingston General Hospital and Providence Care – are committed to providing the best and safest care to our patients. Our organizations strongly support the provincial government’s new strategy to publicly report eight Patient Safety Indicators because we believe it will enhance patient safety and strengthen the public’s confidence in our hospitals.
Beginning Sept. 26, we will report the rate and number of cases of Clostridium difficile Associated Disease (C. difficile) on our individual websites. The remaining seven indicators will be reported in the coming months. Rates of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus (MRSA), Vancomycin-resistant Enterococci (VRE) and mortality rates (Hospital Standardized Mortality Ratio) will be reported beginning Dec. 31, 2008 followed by rates of ventilator-associated pneumonia, central line infections, surgical site infections and hand hygiene compliance among health-care providers will be reported beginning April 30, 2009.
The public can also access these rates on the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care website at www.ontario.ca/patientsafety. Please note not every hospital will report all rates due to the nature of patients/cases it treats.
For more information on public reporting of these patient safety indicators, contact KGH’s Patient Relations Office at 613-549-6666 ext. 4158 or email patrep@kgh.kari.net.
