Rheumatology

Clinical
The Division of Rheumatology provides secondary and tertiary level medical treatment and consultative care, primarily on an ambulatory basis, at the Kingston General Hospital (KGH). Ambulatory service, linked to The Arthritis Society (TAS) physiotherapy services, is also provided in Smiths Falls and Moose Factory. There are sub-specialized consultation and treatment clinics for rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis.

Inpatient consultation service for Rheumatology is provided mainly in KGH with some limited demand at Providence Continuing Care Centre - St. Mary's of the Lake Hospital and Hotel Dieu Hospital.

Research
The research foci in the Division include basic biochemical research, nutraceutical research, clinical (osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, glycobiology, lupus anticoagulant syndrome), and outcomes research. The Division has limited involvement in clinical trials.

The Division is involved in a number of research programs and collaborations. Principal research links are with the Arthritis Society and the Canadian Arthritis Network, which are formally linked to the Arthritis Centre and informally to the University. The Arthritis Centre also links with the Human Mobility Research Centre (HMRC), which has a biomechanical engineering focus.
